Basic Admission Requirements and Expected Duration of the Programme(s) Admission into Social Science programmes in Nigerian Universities is by two modes: The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE). The requirements for each are as stated below: UTME Mode Candidates for admission into the four year degree programme in the Social Science in Nigeria should possess a Senior School Certificate (SSC) or General Certificate of Education of West African Examination Council (WAEC) or National Examination Council (SSCWAEC/NECO) or their equivalent with at least five credit passes in relevant subjects including Mathematics and English Language at not more than two sitting. Direct Entry Candidates for Direct Entry admission shall possess five credit passes in the Senior Secondary Certificate, General Certificate of Education, National Examination Council or their equivalent including English and Mathematics of which at least two shall be at the Advanced level or four credit passes of which at least three shall be at the Advanced level provided that such passes are not counted at both levels of the examinations. In some cases, holders of diploma certificate in disciplines related to courses of study desired in the Social Sciences are accepted.
Minimum / Maximum Duration The minimum duration of Social Sciences programmes is four academic sessions for candidates who enter through the UTME mode. Direct Entry candidates admitted to the 200 level of their programmes will spend a minimum of three academic sessions. The maximum length of
time allowed to obtain an honours degree in the Faculty y shall be twelve semesters for the 4-year degree programme and ten semesters for students admitted directly into the 200 level. Graduation Requirements A student shall qualify for the award of a Social Science degree when he/she has: completed and passed the prescribed number of courses including all compulsory courses specified by the University/Department, not less than 120 units for UTME and 90 for DE; completed and met the standards for all required and elective courses; and obtained a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average CGPA of 1.00 and above. Course System Credits are weights attached to a course. One credit is equivalent to one hour per week per semester of 15 weeks of lectures or three hours of laboratory/studio/workshop work per week per semester of 15 weeks.
Admission Requirements There are two different pathways by which cand idates can be admitted into the programmes in the discipline: the Unified Tertiary Matriculation (UTME) for a four-year degree programme and the Direct Entry.
Four Year Degree Programme
The minimum academic requirement is credit level passes in five subjects at Senior Secondary Certificate (SSC) including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at not more than two (2) sittings in addition to the UTME requirements. Direct Entry Candidate seeking admission through this mode should in addition to the UTME requirements possess either: 1. Credit pass in Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Zoology at the Higher School Certificates or Advanced Level of General Certificate Examination or its equivalent; OR 2. An acceptable First Degree in rele vant Biological Sciences Discipline. Duration of the Programmes For candidates admitted through the UTME mode, the duration of programmes under the discipline is a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 academic sessions based on the specification of each programme. For candidates admitted through Direct entry the duration of the programmes is a minimum of 3 and a maximum 5 academic sessions based on the specification of the programme. Course System Credits are weights attached to a course. One credit is equivalen t to one hour per week per semester of 15 weeks of lectures or three hours of laboratory/studio/workshop work per week per semester of 15 weeks.
Basic Admission Requirements and Expected Duration of the Programmes There are two different pathways by which candidates can be admitted into programmes in the discipline: 1. Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) 2. Direct Entry Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Pathway In addition to appropriate UTME score, a candidate must possess f ive Senior School Certificate (SSC)-credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any other relevant Science subjects in not more than two sittings.
Direct Entry (3-Year Degree Programme)
A minimum of a credit at the University/National Diploma or NCE with other five Senior School Certificate (SSC) credit passes in relevant science subjects three (3) of which must be in English Language, Mathematics, Physics. Minimum duration The minimum duration of computing programmes is four (4) academic sessions or eight (8) consecutively-run semesters for candidates who enter through the UTME Mode. Direct Entry candidates admitted into the 200 level of their programmes will spend a minimum of three academic sessions or six (6) consecutively-run semesters.
Graduation requirements To be eligible for the award of the Bachelor degree in any of the Computing degree programme, a student must have:
Admission Requirements and Duration of the Programmes There are two different pathways by which candidates can be admitted into programmes in the discipline: the Unified Tertiary Matriculation (UTME) and Direct Entry. To be admitted into the Allied Health Sciences programmes the candidate must meet these entry requirements. Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Mode Minimum of five credit level passes including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry at O’level or SSCE in not more than two sittings in addition to other requirements by specific programme with acceptable level of pass in the UTME conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board(JAMB). Direct Entry Mode First degree in relevant discipline, A’ level in r elevant science subjects at not less than B grade in addition to other requirements by the specific programme. Duration of the Programme The minimum duration of programmes for Allied Health Sciences is five academic session or 10 consecutively-run semesters for candidates who enter through the UTME mode. Direct Entry candidates admitted to the 200 level of their programmes will spend a minimum of four academic sessions or eight (8) consecutively-run semesters. However, there are programmes run for four years whose duration should be eight (8) semesters for UTME or six (6) semesters for Direct Entry. The duration for Doctor of Physiotherapy and Doctor of Optometory degrees is six (6) years for UTME mode and five (5) years for Direct Entry. A student will not be allowed to exceed an additional 50 per cent of the duration of the programme if he/she fails to graduate within the minimum number of years.
The minimum number of credit units for the award of a degree is 120 units (four years), 150 units (five years) and 180 units (six years), subject to the usual Department and Faculty requirements and duration of study. A student shall therefore qualify for the award of a degree when he has met the conditions.
The minimum credit load per semester is 15 credit units. For the purpose of calculating a student’s cumulative GPA(CGPA) in order to determine the class of Degree to be awarded, grades obtained in all the courses either compulsory or optional and whether passed or failed must be included in the computation. Even when a student repeats the same course once or more before passing it or substitutes another course for a failed optional course, grades scored at each and all attempts shall be included in the computation of the GPA. Pre - requisite courses must be taken and passed before a particular course at a higher level.
Basic Admission Requirements and Expected Duration of the Programmes Candidates are admitted into the degree programmes in any of the following two ways:
Direct Entry (DE):
3-Year Degree Programme Direct Entry candidates must possess credit level passes in five relevant subjects at the Senior School Certificate (SSC), including English Language, two of which must be at the advanced level. Holders of NCE, University/National Diploma (ND) at minimum of credit level are eligible for consideration for Direct Entry admission into 200 Level. In addition, candidates must meet the required qualifications at Ordinary Level. Duration of the Programme The minimum duration of Arts/Humanities programmes is four academic sessions or eight (8) consecutively-run semesters for candidates who enter through the UTME Mode. Direct Entry candidates admitted to the 200 level of their programmes will spend a minimum of three academic sessions or six (6) consecutively-run semesters.
A student shall qualify for the award of a Bachelor’s Degree w when he/she has:
